Waste Not Want Not, Inc., a volunteer-based group, exists to prevent the discarding of food and other items that can be used to fight hunger and poverty in our community. We do this by rescuing food daily from numerous sources for distribution to local charitable organizations, and through other cost-effective, volunteer-driven initiatives.
Food Rescue: What? Why?
Almost one-quarter of America's food, 10 million tons of food worth $31 billion dollars, is thrown away unsold every year.
Over 36 million Americans, including 12.3 million children, suffer from hunger or live on the edge of hunger.
The Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act
The Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act and the Florida Statutes (Chapter 768.136) provide protection from liability to those who act in good faith to donate, recover, and distribute excess food.
