Scrappy Sewers
Scrappy Sewers, A Giving Group is a group of women that love to sew and give back to our community (Clay County Florida). We have 14-20 women that come sew each Thursday in Building A from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Everyone works together to figure out new patterns that we use. We try to learn a new technique once a month that we can use in our projects. You are welcome to sew at the church or at home.
We donate to 3 agencies that save our babies, making baby blankets, burp cloths, bibs, changing pads, pacifier clips, stuffed animals, and tote bags. The GCS Food Pantry and Seeds of Love Ministry are supported with large tote bags. Seed of Love supports their client needs with new clothes; they use our bags to hold a weeks’ worth of clothes. Diamond and Aspire nursing homes are given a variety of items, wheelchair caddies, wheelchair pads, fidget mats, marble mazes, different seasonal decorations, Christmas gifts for residents and anything that they ask for. We provide pocket prayer quilts and prayer blankets for our parish. A couple of cancer offices are given throw quilts, heart pillows, drain pouches for mastectomy patients and port pillows for seat belt protection. Domestic Violence survivors at Quigley receive throw blankets and pillowcases.
These are just some of what Scrappy Sewers provides to our community. If we see a need, we do our best to help out. We are in our sixth year and provide 2 to 4 thousand items each year to our non-profit agencies. Everything is made from donations of fabrics and funds from our members and community. We all love what we do. Contact Karen Jones at karebear@bellsouth.net with any questions.
