Social Service

Food Is Love

Food is Love seeks to “fill the gap” and help parishioners who might be struggling in the short term and who can benefit from meal support, as well as prayers, compassion, and companionship.  These short term needs may be brought on by unexpected expenses, health changes, medical expenses or other unexpected emergency situations that upset a normally balanced budget.  Food is Love provides a safe place for parishioners to notify the parish of their own need or that of a fellow parishioner; have that need vetted and in turn receive the needed support.  This ministry is a no dues/no meeting ministry that utilizes technology to set up meal trains, as well as prayer support via email and texts.  A member of the ministry will be asked to receive and consider all email requests but have the flexibility to choose which opportunities are right for them.

The Respect Life ministry aims to instill a culture of life within our parish community that values all life from conception to natural death.  You are needed! Your prayers, talents and counsel are welcomed and so necessary.  The bulletin will announce the focus of each meeting as we work to educate, increase awareness, and provide resources and opportunities to nourish a culture of life within our parish.

Parish Outreach Ministry

Outreach Office
(904) 284-4767

Parishioners volunteer to staff the office and address the important ministry of helping the needy in the Green Cove Springs and Fleming Island communities as well as the parishioners of Sacred Heart.  Our ministry helps once in a 12 month period.  We help with electric and utility bills and sometimes with partial payments for rent if our Outreach funds are sufficient.  We also help with referrals to other agencies & resources in the community.  Our office is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Please call to make an appointment.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is an international organization of Catholic men with 1.7 million members in the United States and eight countries. Membership in the Knights is open to all practicing Catholic men who are at least 18 years of age and seek an opportunity to meet, socialize, and work with fellow Catholics for the betterment of our parish and community.

The Knights of Columbus is a mens Catholic organization founded in 1882.  Our founding principles are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.  Council 11220 of Sacred Heart has been supporting the Fleming Island & Green Cove Springs community and our parish for over 25 years.  We currently have over 175 members and are continuously looking to expand.  Currently our council has a quarterly service day to assist individuals and families in need with services such as yard work, painting, power washing and repair or replacing small structures. We try to join forces with our youth at these and most of our other events to keep them involved, keep the lines of communication open and planting the seed for our future Knights.  Our council also joins forces with the CCW as they provide the delicious desserts, blankets and home crafted prizes for our events.  We do four dinner events per year to generate revenue so that we can help support 20 organizations as well as our Frank LaTorre annual scholarships where we provide three seniors heading off to college assistance with their expenses and so much more.  Recently we built the time capsule for the parish’s 150th anniversary and we will be doing a flag retirement ceremony in November.  We have been awarded Star Council from Supreme three out of the last four years due to our active members and focused officers.  I hope that you were inspired by this and that you may get more involved in your community.  If you feel the desire to join us please feel free to reach out to any of our Knights.  May God bless you, our community and the United States of America.

In our affiliation, we offer many opportunities: to develop spirituality, to learn more about current issues, to share with women of like values, to care for those in need through community outreach, to advocate on vital legislation, and to encourage women to attend dynamic workshops and conventions.
